A few questions to consider:
a) the future king is treated quite roughly by the speech therapist, especially considering the great wide social
difference between them. But...look closely – who appears to have the greater power or control in the opening of this clip? Why do you think this is so?
b) In the film, before the 1934 radio broadcast of the King’s Christmas message, King George V (the former King) says:
“This devilish device will change everything…In the past all a king had to do was look respectable in uniform and not fall off his horse.Now we must invade people’s houses and ingratiate ourselves with them.This family has been reduced to those lowest and basest of all creatures.We have become actors.”
Radio changed the way the monarchy interacted with the pubic. Since the time the film is set, many more
changes in media technology and broadcasting have taken place. Consider the way any Royal Family use the media to interact with the public today.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with what that king said. I think that nowadays, every people in the nobility has became actors. For example, Kate Middleton and prince William, announced their engagement couple months ago, and they have been acting every second of their public appearance, It's OK, they have to do it in same ways, but, if they don't do it, people will critisice their behavior.
I think that they just do thtat kind of things because of the gossip.
I agree with alicias opinion and I would also like to add that it's true,nobility acts every moment when they are in a public events but I also think that kings,queens...don´t act that way when they are with their own families.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, i think that the royal family sometimes has to actuate like an actors because they are the picture of a country and they have to make the best of themselves.

I think that the Royal Family of Spain are very good actors, they should be nominated to the Oscar Academy Awards , because they only have to smile , and to be friendly with the cameras , and when something bad has happened they don't have to take charge of the matter.
Maybe is time to change something in this country....But like i said , It's my opinion...
Hello!!! this film seems very funny and very english too, the actors are good too so the film promise to be an exit. It teach us how to speak adecuately but with the british humor. When I have time I will watch it
ReplyDeleteI think this film could be a great opportunity to improve English. The kings often transmit messages of hope and encouragement to citizens (for example the Christmas speech).
ReplyDeleteI think the above text tries to reflect that in earlier times kings had a greater decision power than now. Nowadays, they have become a "symbol" with apparent powers and responsabilities. In fact, it is said that currently, the king reigns but does not govern.

ReplyDeleteAnswering the question "a", I ´ve to say that the person who seems to have more power is the doctor that helps the king with his speaking problem, because for example it speaks with the king in a very informal way and with not enough respect, and this shows the incredible power and the self confidence that haves this doctor.

ReplyDeleteI'm also agree with Alicia and Diego I think that the royal family in spain and all the royal families in the world are very good actors, in my opinion they have to act when they have to give a speech or when they are on public.
I also thing that they have to give a view of the country they are representing but I know that they are different when they are with their families
I think that all the Royal families are actors. Because they have to smile in public to make a good impresion but when they are in family I think that they aren´t like that. They change they personality.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Paula that Royal families usually act. However, I would add that their life isn't based on acting, because if they have problems with each other they can always split up.
